Abstract:

We conducted research on innovation at two field sites. Our objective was to identify factors that
inhibited the suggestion of ideas by employees. We found that the two most commonly mentioned factors
were management’s lack of follow-through on idea submissions and a lack of feedback on why ideas were
not accepted. This paper presents the details of the research and a discussion of the importance of these
two variables, as well as other variables, to the innovation process.
